The Challenge: 508 Compliance
The American with Disabilities Act (ADA) prohibits discrimination on the basis of disabilities in employment. Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 requires federal agencies to make their electronic and information technology (EIT) accessible to people with disabilities. The existing food safety courses could not be accessed by disabled employees, so the FDA mandated that all legacy and future courses be Section 508 Compliant. The existing curriculum comprised __________ courses, totaling _____ minutes of training.
Our Solution: 508 Compliance Conversion
Ideaon analyzed all content and incorporated best practices to re-create the course to meet the 508 Compliance parameters. The courses addressed the needs of both visually- and hearing-impaired users. Ideaon identified 103 touch points where the standard courses needed to be modified. Ideaon used video and audio queuing, interactivities, and color and contrast to add accessibility. Assistive Learning technologies were also incorporated into the courses. The resulting courses met FDA standards and renewed the university’s grants.
